The Black Stars decided to camp in Johannesburg, South Africa, because the technical team wanted a serene environment for the team, according to communications director of the Ghana Football Association Henry Asante Twum.
Ghana had initially settled on camping in South Africa before the Ghana FA reversed that decision with the team now set to pitch camp in Kumasi ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking on Game Plan on Friday, December 29, Asante Twum said camping in Ghana was always going to be difficult due to destruction.
"Chris [Hughton] always decides to train behind closed doors and it has always been impossible to train behind closed doors in Ghana," he said.
"Just Sunday ago, the [Asante] Kotoko-RTU game was moved from 3 pm kickoff to 6 pm because there were three different funerals taking place at the Baba Yara Stadium on the matchday and Kotoko wrote to the FA to request for change of kickoff time.
"That is a key consideration and it is one of the major headaches we have had since we moved from Cape Coast to Kumasi to play our home matches.
"With these points that I have enumerated, Ghana was completely ruled out."
The Black Stars are paired in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
Ghana will open their campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, before taking on record holders Egypt on January 18 and play Mozambique on January 22 in the final Group game
