In their quest to stay healthy and rejuvenate for the year ahead, journalists in the Ashanti Region have embarked on a health walk.
The exercise afforded the media practitioners the opportunity to ease the stress of staying on beats for long to feed their audience with timely information.
It was initiated by some senior journalists and supported by telecom giant MTN Ghana, to deepen existing mutual working relationships.
Acting Commercial Manager of MTN Northern Business, Simon Amoh, noted the job of the journalist in the quest to serve the public with information can pose health risks, hence the need for routine health breaks.
He believes regular health initiatives, such as the walk, are important for all.
The aerobic sessions before and after the walk were led by Warrant Officer Class One Austin Power of the Ghana Armed Forces, who emphasised the importance of burning excess fat, eating right and staying physically active to stay healthy.
Gingered with good brass band music, the journalists started the walk from the Nhyiaeso premises of MTN and went through the Ahodwo Roundabout, Asokwa Interchange, the Kumasi City Mall, then to Asafo Ahmmadyya Roundabout, Labour Roundabout, through to Labour Roundabout and Asafo Interchange to the KMA office, Ridge Police Station and back to the Nhyiaeso start point.
"This has really been very useful. I feel very light and wish we will be doing this monthly," said Beatrice.
The event ended with a football penalty shootout among the various media houses with lots to eat and drink.
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, Kingsley Hope, urged MTN to continuously support the exercise.
