Breath of Hope Foundation in partnership with Rikair Company Limited has supported to the Maamobi Government Hospital in Accra.
The items donated to the Pediatric Unit of the hospital were worth GH¢136,000.
The items include oxygen cylinders, a phototherapy unit for children with jaundice, surgical gowns, nose masks, temperature guns, stretchers, toys and many others.
More importantly, Rikair, the Ghanaian-owned company is seeking to do a medical gas piping in the wards to ensure the safety of patients.
This initiative, according to the Managing Director of Rikair, Nana Yaw Asante is to take the oxygen cylinders out of the wards and pipe it through the rooms.
As part of their commitment to ensure oxygen does not run out in the children’s ward, he said they will supply the hospital with oxygen free of charge.
“This is not supposed to be a one-off project. It is going to be a continuous project. We are going to give them free oxygen for the foreseeable future. The idea is that the children’s ward here never lacks oxygen” the Rikair MD stated.
Mr. Asante indicated that their motivation for the donation is to ensure children don’t die due to shortage of oxygen.
“We are a Ghanaian company and if Ghanaian hospitals and babies are in need, we think it is our responsibility to help” he stated.
The medical gas piping, he added will be replicated in hospitals in other regions.
“After this, we are looking at the Central region like Volta region and the North. The idea is to focus on places where the patients are disadvantaged; where there isn’t a lot of help or aid” Mr. Asante added.
The Medical officer in charge of the Pediatric Unit, Dr. Maureen Breseh received the donation on behalf of the hospital.
She expressed profound gratitude to Rikair for the donation which will improve healthcare delivery at the facility.
Dr. Breseh assured them that, the items would be used for their intended purposes.
