Renowned economist, Kwame Pianim says government needs to invest a lot in human capital.
According to him, Ghana possesses skilled individuals who only lack the necessary support to advance and showcase their abilities.
Directing government attention towards these individuals, he believes, will significantly contribute to the country’s development, fostering higher progress and growth.
He was speaking at the UPSA Annual Leadership Lecture on the theme, ‘Re-Imagining Ghana’s Trajectory for a Peaceful Prosperous Nation By 2057.’
Addressing that gathering on Monday, December 11, the expert emphasized that capital is one of the main resources eluding the skilled population.
The economist recounted how Ghana's first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah directed the country’s development by emphasizing the growth of skilled professionals such as engineers and doctors.
However, he sees the current situation in a different light. Mr Pianim believes the absence of well-tailored initiatives is impeding the nation’s progress.
“There are few things the government can do to help citizens, in several key areas, including education, healthcare, and security," he added.
