Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong has revealed that his mind was already made up to play for the Netherlands ahead of Ghana.
However, the 22-year-old wing-back disclosed that he spoke to the Black Stars coach about the possibility of playing for his country of descent. Nevertheless, at that time, he had already made his decision.
There were reports that the Ghana Football Association made advances to recruit him to play for Ghana, but this did not materialize in the end.
Frimpong, who represented the Dutch at various youth levels, finally made his senior debut in October 2023 after several neglects.
Speaking to Joy Sports editor Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo after Leverkusen’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, the versatile defender said he was delighted to make his much-awaited debut.
"That was nice to finally make my debut against France. It was a nice game and I was really happy about it.
"The coach called me, I had a conversation with him but my mind was already made up.”
