The Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu constituency has shot down claims by government that it has a history of prudent financial management during election years.
According to John Jinapor, the evidence available points to the contrary.
This comes after the Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei Asare told Parliament that her administration has a track record of managing election-year spending.
But speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr Jinapor argued that “in 2016, the deficit was approximately 6%, however, in 2020, during her tenure as Deputy Finance Minister, the deficit surged to 17%, making an unprecedented occurrence.”
This came up during the debate of the 2024 Budget in Parliament on Tuesday, November 21.
He emphasized that the head of the Economic Management Team lacks competence in handling his duties effectively within the economy.
“He has proven that he cannot handle the economy which is his core duty to manage this economy. Now he wants to turn himself into an IT man and talk about IT. No, we wants you to deal with the economy”.
