The Member of Parliament (MP) for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has questioned the government's assurance about the timeline for the start of work on the demolished La General Hospital.
In an interview with JoyNews, the lawmaker said she does not believe this promise will be met after several failed assurances.
“For me, I don’t believe them but I am keeping hope alive to see if they will ‘walk the talk’. The people of La Dadekotopon are watching and we are keeping our fingers crossed to see if the contractor will move to the site,” she said.
Her comments follow the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta's announcement during the 2024 Budget presentation that construction work will resume on the La General Hospital project next week.
He disclosed that the terms with the contractor have been successfully renegotiated, and funding for the project will now be sourced from the national budget.
The Minister emphasised that the contractor has been directed to make substantial progress by the end of the year.
But the MP said, “Third week of November we are all going to move to the site to see if the contractor has moved to the site.”
She added that if indeed work begins as government has assured, they will applaud the government.
Madam Rita Naa Odoley Sowah stated that she hopes the project would be completed before the 2024 election.
