Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Mr. Alhassan Suhuyini, says the Minority in Parliament will not support the government if it decides to impose more taxes on Ghanaians.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, he said the minority has made their stance clear not to countenance any increment in taxes or addition of new taxes in the yet-to-be-read 2024 budget.
He stated that the average Ghanaian has experienced untold hardship due to skyrocketing prices of goods and services as a result of the depreciating cedi and the general economic downturn.
According to Mr. Suhuyini, Ghanaians are looking up to the government to alleviate their difficulties through the announcement of social interventions geared at job creation and economic growth.
The MP assured Ghanaians that the minority will scrutinize and examine the budget diligently to ensure concerns of the people are catered for.
“As people in authority, we need to send the signal to the ordinary Ghanaian that we appreciate and understand the challenges that we are in and that we are in it together and so the sacrifice must not be made by one side. Those out of government alone in that case. It must be made by both sides those in government and outside government,” he said.
He added that “Through that spirit, you can be rest assured that anything that this government wants to introduce in that budget that we consider to be an additional burden on the ordinary Ghanaian will face fierce resistance”.
