Reach Out Africa supports flood victims in Mepe

The Reach Out Africa foundation has extended support to victims of the floods at Mepe in the Volta region which followed the Akosombo Dam spillage.

Reach Out Africa visited the affected area and offered free health screenings and donated relief items, including food supplies, shoes and clean water to the displaced people.

The initiative was aimed at reducing the difficulties faced by the affected individuals in their moments of pain.

The President of Reach Out Africa, Monique Ohenewaah Nkrumah, said the recent happenings in the Lower Volta Basin are of major concern and thus the need for NGOs, like themselves to extend a hand of support.

“Reach Out Africa is an NGO with the main aim of bringing relief to dispirited communities, and the recent happenings in Akosombo is in line with our aim as an organisation,“ she said.

Ms. Nkrumah called on all institutions both public and private, as well as individuals to emulate their good example.

The Coordinator of Reach Out Africa, Georgina Gyebi, also added that the health screening exercise held at Mepe benefited over 500 people in the area.

“This was conducted by doctors and other health personnel who are members of the organisation. We realised that most of the people who were affected by the spillage had blood pressure, we gave medications and referred the extreme conditions,“ she explained.

Mepe in the Volta region is one of the most flood-affected areas in the Lower Volta Basin following the controlled spillage of excess water from the Kpong and Akosombo Dams.
