CAF U17 Championship Final
Result: South Africa 0-2 Mali
Date: 1 March 2015
Venue: General Seyni Kountche Stadium
Mali beat South Africa 2-0 in Niamey on Sunday to become the new U-17 champions of Africa.
Second half goals from Siaka Bagayoko and Aly Malle decided the tie and earned the Eaglets their first ever triumph in the competition.
Neither of the two finalists had won the competition before, but Mali had been knocking on the door after finishing second once and third twice, while South Africa's best showing before now was a fourth-placed finish ten years ago.
Both teams were unbeaten coming into this game though the Malians boasted a better record, with three wins and a draw to South Africa's two wins and two draws.
When both met in the group phase Mali blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2, but this time the Amajimbos had no answer for the all-conquering Eaglets.
Bagayoko opened scoring in the 64th minute and Malle made sure of the win in the 77th minute.
Third place match
Guinea came from behind to beat Nigeria 3-1 for bronze.
Victor Osimhen got the opening goal for the Nigerians, but the junior Syli hit back through Aboubacar Toure and Abdoulaye Keita to take a 2-1 lead into the break. Keita then sealed the win in the second half with his second goal of the game.
All four teams have however qualified to represent Africa at the World Cup in October in Chile.
