The Campaign Manager for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku, is steadfast in his belief that Dr. Bawumia is the party's best shot at victory in the 2024 general elections.
According to Mr. Awuku, Dr Bawumia possesses the ability to make inroads into the National Democratic Congress (NDC) strongholds, particularly in the Ashanti region, which has seen increasing NDC support.
He believes that Dr Bawumia's leadership qualities are not to be underestimated and that he can secure more votes in the Ashanti region while also challenging the NDC's dominance in their traditional strongholds.
The NPP's former National Organiser emphasised that no amount of mathematical calculations can convince him that the NPP could win the Volta region in 2024, but having Dr. Bawumia as the candidate changes the dynamics.
“There is no mathematical gymnastics that can convince me that the NPP can win the Volta region in 2024. But the two other strongholds of the NDC then become a battleground when you have a candidate like Dr Bawumia.”
As the NPP prepares to select its flagbearer, delegates will decide between Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Afriyie Akoto, Kennedy Agyapong, and Francis Addai-Nimoh.
A recent poll conducted by the Institute of Research Innovation & Development at Kumasi Technical University indicated that Dr Bawumia is well-favoured among NPP delegates, with a high likelihood of winning the party's presidential nomination.
The poll revealed that 71.1% of NPP delegates believe that Dr. Bawumia has a stronger chance of securing victory, while 26.8% think Kennedy Agyapong stands a better chance.
Furthermore, 69.9% of delegates view Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the most unifying candidate, and 19.4% consider Kennedy Agyapong as the most unifying.
In terms of visible leadership qualities, 70.5% of engaged delegates chose Dr Bawumia, while 19.4% mentioned Mr Kennedy Agyapong.
The poll indicates that Dr Bawumia enjoys strong support among NPP delegates and is well-positioned to secure the party’s presidential nomination.
