Three-time Grammy award nominee, Rocky Dawuni says there was a need for the President to empathize with Ghanaians during the ‘Occupy Julorbi House’ protest.
According to him, there is a void in leadership when leaders of the country fail to address protesters.
Speaking to Doreen Avio, Rocky Dawuni said protesters must be treated well even during their demonstrations.
“Expression of your civic responsibility, the right to protest, the right to articulate how you feel is what strengthens democratic systems. Democracy is about having different people, different perspectives, and different ideas but you all work towards a common objective.
“But when one party feels aggrieved, and you also have a situation where people are going through a lot and they step there to express it in a way that is peaceful, the protest also has issues, people come but it was generally a peaceful expression and it’s met with a level of force, then we are defeating the fundamental principles of this concept,” he explained.
Meanwhile, recently Mia Amor Mottley, prime minister of Barbados, roughly quoted reggae musician Rocky Dawuni to press home the need for action on climate change and other global crises.
Mottley has made a habit of including song lyrics in her General Assembly speeches, last year invoking “We Are the World” and, the year before, Bob Marley.
