Ghanaian artiste, Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel has enumerated the benefits social media has brought to music promotion.
According to her, some years ago, musicians had to put a lot of money and time into promoting their music. This made it difficult for up-and-coming musicians to excel in the music industry.
She said thanks to many social media platforms like TikTok, a lot of musicians have been able to promote their music without spending much money and going through stress in recent times.
Speaking to Amelley Djosu on the Joy Prime's Celeb Biz Show, Mzbel explained that naturally, music is a spirit and must travel by itself, a characteristic that was less manifest in the past until the advent of new media.
"There is nothing like being lazy. Music has to carry itself. It's a spirit. You can't carry spirit and be introducing it to people. It's supposed to fly on its own but unfortunately it never used to work like that but now that is working, people are actually enjoying being musicians. All you have to do it sing," she said, discounting claims that digital music promotion has made musicians lazy.
According to her, if Ghanaian musicians keep producing good songs and promote them on the online platforms, they are bound to reach the level of Nigeria’s music industry in no time.
"Now you put your song on social media, and people come up with a dance, and it’s a hit. It’s all over the place, and it goes everywhere. I see Ghanaian songs with Dubai dancers. Like I said, if we keep up with it, we will be on the same level as Nigeria," she said.
Mzbel is known for songs such as '16 Years', 'Awoso Me', 'Yopoo', 'E Dey Bee' among others.
