The Principal of Kedland International School in Tema, Mrs Naomi Odonkor has urged educational institutions to help develop and explore the creative thinking abilities of all school children.
According to her, developing the creative thinking of children is critical in bringing out the creativity in children.
She was addressing the grand launch and official opening of the Kedland International School, Community 19 Annex near Decan Recreational Centre on Monday 2nd October, 2023.
Facilities at Kedland International School include state-of-the-art classrooms which are equipped with modern teaching tools and technology to facilitate effective learning, cameras in every classroom to provide visibility to parents; a sick bay with trained staff to attend to the pupils' medical needs; a Cafeteria; outdoor play areas; outdoor spaces for relaxation and social activities; security systems to ensure the safety of pupils and staff; and a well-stocked reading room to encourage reading.
The school also runs after-school programmes like Tae-Kwando; Music and Dance; storytime; circle time; water play; field trips and also offer late pick-ups for parents who close late with Identification tags.
She mentioned that it is the vision of Kedland International School to develop open-minded and creative thinkers, who will meet the challenges of future generations and this they intend to do by providing exceptional care.
"The commissioning of our new school marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing an outstanding education within the framework of the British National Curriculum," she emphasised.
She continued that the vision of Kedland International School is to provide a learning environment where students are inspired to reach their full potential and equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate a complex and interconnected world.
"Kedland International School is a place where knowledge will be imparted, where dreams will be nurtured, and where future leaders will be shaped. We believe that by harnessing their intellectual, physical, social, and moral abilities, we will develop children who are knowledgeable, smart, and confident to face the future. Our approach is to adopt the Early Years Foundation.
The early year's foundation stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to 5 years.
Our Kedland angels will mostly be taught through games and play," she revealed.
She added that "Also, our vision extends to develop open-minded and creative thinkers who will meet the challenges of future generations and this we intend to do by providing exceptional care to our Kedland angels.
We believe that by harnessing their intellectual, physical, social, and moral abilities, we will develop children who are knowledgeable, smart, and confident to face the future," she noted.
She also took time to explain the school's assessment system and how it will operate.
"When it comes to assessments, your child’s progress will be reviewed when they’re between 2 and 3 years old. Their class teacher will assess them at the end of the school year when they turn 5.
The assessment is based on classroom observation - your child won’t be tested. It uses the early learning goals, which can be found in the early years framework.
She urged the staff to give off their best while remaining committed to professional excellence.
"Let us remember that our commitment to excellence will help in building and guiding us to instill values of integrity, and compassion, and preparing students not only for academic success but also for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the future.
My deepest appreciation to all those who have made this vision a reality. our supportive parents, dedicated teachers, and committed staff"Mrs Naomi Odonkor concluded.
