Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has described the governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison as a coward and a colossal failure.
Speaking on the sidelines of the #OccupyBoG protest, the parliamentarian said he strongly believes the ‘cowardly’ BoG governor will delegate one of his deputies to receive the protesters’ petition on his behalf.
This is after the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, said they will not submit their petition to other officials aside from the governor of the Bank of Ghana.
According to Dr. Ato Forson, the group is ready to stay at the central bank until Dr. Ernest Addison avails himself to be served.
However, speaking to JoyNews, Sam George said Dr. Addison has a reputation for dodging accountability thus he won’t be surprised if a deputy governor comes down to receive their petition.
“The governor is a coward. Dr. Addison is a coward and this is not going to be the first time. I’ve served on the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament for seven years and at least every year we invite him twice to appear because of the Auditor General’s report.
“And I can say on authority that Dr. Addison himself has appeared before the Public Accounts Committee maybe two or three times in seven years. He’s a coward, he runs away from his own work, from his own failings. Most times he sends his deputy, Maxwell and I won’t be surprised that today it will be Maxwell who would have the balls to come out.
“Addison himself won’t come out. Addison is a coward and I’m putting it to him, 'you’re a coward and you have failed. You’re a colossal failure',” he said.
The Minority in Parliament is calling for the immediate resignation of the governors of the Bank of Ghana.
They are making this demand against what they described as mismanagement at the central bank that has culminated in massive losses and subsequently taken a toll on the Ghanaian economy.
“Because look, let’s call a spade a spade, we have 196 central banks for 196 countries across the world. In 2022 the Central Bank of Ghana came last. We had the worst performing currency in the world. Our currency was worse than the currency of Yemen, was worse than the currency of Syria, worse than the currency of South Sudan, worse than the currency of Ukraine, Zimbabwe, our currency was worse.
“So if you sent your child to school and the teacher you asked to teach your child or the lesson teacher who is teaching your child at home goes to write the licensure exams and comes last would you continue?
“And what even annoys us as young people the most is that in 2022, they increased their allowance by 100% and paid themselves 8.7 million as allowances for coming last. This is the failing of the governor of the Bank of Ghana,” Sam George explained.
Meanwhile, the protesters will march from Obra Spot to the National Lottery Authority where they are expected to make a U-turn to terminate their procession at the Independence Square, however, the minority leadership and Members of Parliament will march on to the Bank of Ghana to submit their petition to Dr. Addison.
