Dear Michael Addo, this is an open letter to address a real concern from a youth point of view.
Over the years you have inspired and set a great example as a visionary leader for the youth through your music and your personality.
You always over-emphasize the fact that you came from a home not well-to-do but you have been able to come far by Grace.
Sarkodie, you have seen it all from the educational system to the rent or high cost of living in the streets of Tema to the big boy you are today.
A couple of years ago, you preached Black Excellence in your music and jumped on the poor Ghana music industry business.
Today, you are silent over #FixTheCountry campaign but followed other campaigns like #blacklivesmatter, #justiceforgeorgefloyd, #EndSars, #FreeAkuapemPoloo and others.
A campaign by some of your own fanbase which started from Twitter (where you started or amassed your fanbase) and you know it's all about non-partisan concerned youth yet, you are just quiet!
You have amassed wealth from the youth who struggle to get data to stream your music or attend your shows to make you who you are today. We are here to let you know you are not Sarkodie without the youth!
For now, everything seems alright with you and your family. You live in a comfortable house and do not care even about the terrible roads over there because you are sorted!
We jammed to your 'Happy Day' with Kuami Eugene and we loved it because this is good music. Political endorsements are not wrong but Speaking Up and joining forces to solve a long-term problem or the future of your nation is what we need now.
Our water bodies have been destroyed by unscrupulous leaders with 'galamsey' over the past 15 years and we might be importing water in the next 15 years, yet you won't say a thing. The people who stream your music have high data tariffs, yet you won't talk.
Clean and accessible water supply, reliable electricity supply, good roads, well-paid and job availability for the youth, and an unprogressive educational system are surely telling us this country is sitting on a timebomb.
You might ask why Sarkodie? Not long ago you enjoyed a statement by Stonebwoy that you are the nation's assets, well that's true. We uphold you in high esteem and there is no way Sarkodie will be disrespected before us.
Your voice in music is powerful but your relationship with the youth is real love. We love you sir and you have undoubtedly shaped our mindset over a long period of critical growth period in life. Do not fail us to join the leaders. Do not leave us at the crossroads when we are ready to show the world what you wholeheartedly believe in.
The voice of the youth is shaking and it's about time we rise up together with your inspiration. We are not asking for change in government or political party, we are asking our leaders to do the work they haven't done in years.
They can't stand us together. Save Titi and the future of the country that made you.
Best Regards, Bright Tenbil, Youth Advocate.
