The Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) says it is working to urgently repair the cut-off Sawla-Bole highway in the Savannah Region.
The Authority says its engineers and technical team are currently on site working on the highway.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the GHA said it will work to ensure the immediate restoration of normal traffic flow.
"We assure you that our engineers and technical team are working diligently to address the situation as quickly as practicable."
"We greatly appreciate your patience as we work towards ensuring your safety and restoration of normal traffic flow," the statement concluded.
The Doli portion of the Sawla-Bole highway in the Savannah Region was washed away by flood waters from the Doli Dam on Sunday.
This impeded traffic flow on the stretch rendering affected communities isolated from the rest of the region.
However, no human casualty was recorded. But locals say the non-desilting of the Doli dam is the cause.
They claim the dam was abandoned for several years after it was first desilted in the nineties leading to its overflow.
“We don’t need any local authority here to preach to us about this road and all that because we told them about the dam. We started telling them years ago that the mud in the dam was becoming too much and needed to be removed but they didn’t mind us and now, here we are”, a resident said.
