The results at the just ended 2023 World Junior Aquatic Championships weren’t what Team Ghana had hoped for, but the experience was was definitely worth it.
Ghana failed to bring home a medal from the competition, but the team of five swimmers, with the youngest being 13-year-old, Tamba Akin Boamah, picked up some valuable lessons for the future.
“It gave me a sense of what a global competition looks like and allowed me to have the privilege to represent my country,” Boamah said after the competition.
“It gave me exposure to the facilities available to people around the world,” he added.
Boamah, the youngest in the 50 meter freestyle event, finished 5th in his heat, missing out on a place in the semifinals.
18 year old, Nikoli Blackman from Trinidad and Tobago emerged winner, with Australian Flynn Southam and Italian Lorenzo Ballarati claiming silver and bronze respectively.
The Ghanaian also finished 2nd in his 50 meter breaststroke heat, but unfortunately fell short of the time to make the semifinals.
