The Wenchi Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has commenced an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding an alleged swearing by a deity of some pupils of Saint Paul's Anglican Basic School in Wenchi.
According to sources, a teacher of the school, Emmanuel Tweneboah, allegedly coerced his pupils to swear by any deity of their choice to prove that they had not stolen his mobile phone.
The sources indicated Mr Tweneboah’s mobile phone went missing on Friday, September 1, 2023, during school activities.
He then decided to adopt the strategy of swearing by deity to get the mobile phone back.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Gensoso, Nana Nketia Agyemang Opambour II, has directed Mr Twenwboah to revert the curse immediately.
The Chief of Gensos gave the directive when a team from the GES office visited him at Gensoso, a suburb of Wenchi, where Saint Paul's Anglican Basic School is situated.
The Public Relations Officer of the Wenchi Municipal Directorate of GES, David Baffoe, said Nana Nketia Agyemang Opambour II got wind of the incident and invited the GES to his palace, where he charged the teacher to reverse the curse.
''We have already spoken with the teacher in question and the school authorities so that we would resolve this issue as quickly as possible,'' Mr. Baffoe stated.
He added that the Chief of Gensos asked the GES to continue the investigation, although he had already instructed the teacher to undo the curses.
Mr Baffoe further explained that GES will not hesitate to apply sanctions if the teacher is found guilty.
