Ghana youngster, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, made his debut for Leicester City in a 1-0 defeat to Hull City on Saturday.
The 19-year-old came on in the 53rd minute to replace Yunus Akgun at the King Power Stadium for his first minutes in the English Championship.
The Sporting loanee came close to scoring on his debut as he had a shot hit the base of the post.
Fatawu also completed the most dribbles in the game (2) despite only spending only 36 minutes on the pitch.
Here’s how Abdul Fatawu Issahaku fared in the game - by Scott Geelan, AfroStat
1. Operating wide
Positive first game for Fatawu Issahaku at Leicester. The role suits him: He was wide on the right, giving him time & space to operate, creating isolation dribbles, simplifying his reads & giving him time to switch play. Decision-making & defensive issues remain
2. Brilliant cross-field passes
One strength we knew about was his ability to identify spaces to progress into or switch into as a passer when he has time & space to operate. Showed that on a few occasions here, with opportunities to cross too & has the ball-striking. Linked with Casadei nicely.
3. Decision making
Explosiveness, contact balance & control of his speed also make him a useful isolated dribbler, particularly when he has time to get (himself & the defenders) moving. However, we also saw his decision-making issues with some poor shot locations with better options available
4. Defensive awareness
Another concern is around his defensive awareness, if not his application. A couple of times his man got a run on him, which is a problem in Leicester's system given the spaces that open when players come free. Nevertheless, his recovery speed helps him out.
5. Conclusion
Positive overall, though. The system looks like it creates the time & space he needs to optimise his dribbling, passing & crossing. More static dribbling situations, tighter spaces & decision-making remain challenging. The latter is the big area of improvement needed.
