The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has set Saturday, August 19, aside for industry fun games as part of celebrations for their 50th anniversary.

2023 marks 50 years since the establishment of the GTA with the institution having a week-long program to celebrate the milestone.

The celebration is under the theme “Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism Development 50 Years and Beyond," with agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture included in the celebration.

As part of marking the Golden Jubilee, an open day of fun games has been set for Saturday at the Ridge Church School's Astroturf.

Speaking at the balloting for the games, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer at GTA, Ben Anane-Nsiah, talked about the importance of the games.

"The GTA launched its 50th anniversary a couple of months ago and a series of activities have been lined up. One of the things we want to do is this industry fun games," he said.

"These games are mainly focused on the private sector companies of the industry and also the agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

"There are competitive and non-competitive games and the winners will get trophies. It's supposed to be a time of fun, keeping healthy, interacting building that collaboration."

GTA, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Car Rentals Association, Tourism Society of Ghana, Tour Guides Association of Ghana and Ghana Hotels are all expected to take part in the games on Saturday.

The competitive games on the day will include; soccer, table tennis, tug of war, lime and spoon, sack race, scrabble and 50-meter dash race while ludu, playing cards, bottle flip, eating competition, ampe, musical chairs, oware, draft, playing cards and jenga will be non-competitive games.

The fixtures for the football competition are as follows:

  • Ghana Hotels v GTA
  • Tourism Society of Ghana v Car Rentals Association
  • Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture v Tour Guides Association of Ghana.
