After extensive reportage by JoyNews on the physical abuse of a nine-year-old girl at Goaso in the Ahafo region, she is accessing full educational scholarship and care.
Little Stephanie lost full function of her left hand after her stepmother literally boiled her hands in a rice cooker for taking her GH¢2.
The incident was first reported in March last year.
Following a series of reports by Luv FM's Erastus Asare Donkor on her condition, Mensin Gold Bibiani Limited funded a number of surgeries to save the almost deteriorating hand.
The company has stepped up support for the girl’s education.
Little Stephanie's deteriorating hand was discovered weeks later at their Goaso home in the Ahafo region.
After about six months in the hospital and a series of surgeries funded by the Mensin Gold Bibiani Limited, doctors were able to retain the hand and partial use of it.
The mining firm has further responded to The Multimedia Group’s call for help for this child.
Stephanie has been placed in the company’s flagship model school with a full scholarship, including free meals and transportation from her village, about eight miles from Bibiani.
Her class teacher, Seth Okyere says she is improving academically.
Headmaster of Mensin Gold Bibiani Limited Basic School, William Baah Gyansah, admits though the abuse had a psychological effect on her, the school has embraced her.
Meanwhile, Ellen Serwaa, the stepmother accused of abusing her is being tried by a Goaso Circuit Court.
