Soul-life singer, Eldah Naa Abiana Dickson, better known as Abiana, has revealed why she was emotional in her song, "Adun Lei."
The musician seemed to have poured all her emotions into the video of the song and sung it passionately as she shed tears.
She said the song was inspired by her first heartbreak, which she experienced in 2015. Trying to console herself by singing with her guitar, she developed the lyrics and decided to record it.
She spoke in an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning on Wednesday.
"Adun Lei was inspired by heartbreak in 2015. As I chop the thing, it went into my head. While I was holding my guitar, the lyrics started dropping.
"But I wanted to write it creatively enough that when it’s criticised, people will not get the storyline as a heartbreak," the singer revealed.
So, the "Adun Lei" hitmaker wrote the song ironically in order to sustain its relevance, thereby using the name of local food.
"Adun Lei," as it is known in Ga is a Ghanaian food that is usually difficult to chew and sometimes crunchy. Due to its hardness, it is eaten in bits.
Therefore, "I felt like in this relationship that I was in, the person was using that strategy where he abandons me and pick me up anytime he likes. Treating me like "Adun Lei."
Abiana backed an award for becoming Ghana’s Best Female Vocalist at the VGMA in 2021 for her performance on the song ‘Adun Lei’ after she beat five other respectable and very talented vocalists, Efe Grace, Yaayaa, Adina, Cina Soul, and Enuonyam, to win the coveted award.
Meanwhile, the singer is out with another intriguing song titled "Far Away," featuring Fameye.
