The Northern Region this year is presenting 31,534 at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In all 16,528 males and 15,006 females from 698 schools are writing.
The Tamale Metropolitan has the highest number of candidates with a total of 6,036 comprising 2,834 boys and 3202 girls.
The Tamale Metropolis also tops with the highest number of females seating for the exams.
Sagnarigu Municipality follows second with a total of 5,483 students comprising 2,643 males and 2,840 females.
The Yendi Municipality follows with a total of 2248 students with 1,167 and 1,081 girls.
Whiles Nanton has the lowest candidate with 693 students comprising 423 boys and 270 girls.
In all 573 public schools and 125 private schools have presented candidates for the examination.
One hundred and seventeen centres are hosting these students across the northern region.
Out of the 117 centres the Tamale Metropolis has 25 centres, followed by Sagnarigu with 21 centres, Yendi had eight centres and the district with the least centres is Nanton with two centers.
There has been an increase in the number of candidates presented compared to last year.
Last year the region presented 29,648 candidates with the breakdown being 15,815 boys and 13,833 girls.
A total of 783 schools participated in the exams with 677 from the public and 106 private schools.
