The Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners (SPMDP) Ghana, has called for the critical review of the “whole policy of healthcare professionals postings” to ensure a more equitable distribution “such that in the end the client shall benefit from quality of care from both public and private facilities."
The call is part of resolutions passed by members of the society at their 42nd Annual General Meeting held in Accra on the theme: “Training of Healthcare Professionals in Ghana: The Role of Private Health Facilities”.
According to the society in a communique it issued on Sunday, August 6, 2023, the government must institute, among others, measures to reduce the burden private health facilities go through in procuring both conventional and state of the art equipment to enhance healthcare delivery in the country.
They also asked the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to negotiate with the private health facilities to post nurses and doctors to these private facilities every year to alleviate the hardships these qualified personnel go through, sitting at home after qualifications.
The AGM also elected a four-man executive to steer affairs of the society for the next two years.
The new executives are;
- Dr. Andre Kwasi-Kumah, National President.
- Dr. Matthew Edusei, National Secretary.
- Dr. Chris Adomako, National Vice President
- Dr. Harry Tawiah, Immediate past National President.
Below is the Communique issued by the SPMDP.
