Pupils in rural areas have peculiar challenges in accessing good quality education. They also have to battle with poor educational infrastructure, inadequate teaching and learning materials as well as low attraction of experienced and qualified teachers.
According to Nana Boadu, Senahene of Sefwi-Wenchi in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai district, these challenges hinder the pupils chance of exceling during examinations.
He is however hopeful students in rural communities can perform better in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) when indigenes turn their attention to support local schools.
Nana Boadu believes the collective drive of indigenes to give back in support of local projects will foster communal development.
He was speaking at a ceremony to distribute learning and examination materials to pupils of Sefwi Wenchi M/A JHS and Primary School.
The gesture by Daniel Apau, the Exploration Manager of Chirano Gold Mines and a native of Wenchi is to aid educational growth.
The items donated included exercise books, drawing boards, mathematical sets, pens and pencils.
Headmaster, Eric Kwame Adinkra, in appreciation of the gesture, noted that such materials go a long way in motivating the pupils to excel academically.
