Over three thousand kid spellers will be competing in the 5th edition of the Junior Speller competition.
The contest began with participants from only three regions of Ghana but has been extended to other regions this year, with a vast number of children participating.
This year’s edition comes with a new twist of exciting and challenging episodes, as the contenders are expected to master over five thousand words and exhibit their prowess.
The competition organised by Born Heroes Foundation will be aired on your ultimate experience television, Joy Prime, between August and December 2023.
The founder of the Foundation, Victor Osei Nkansa, who spoke on Joy Prime’s morning show on Thursday, narrated the journey so far and changes in the new season.
"It’s been tough and interesting. I remember when we started, we had a few schools and some media houses, then last year we came on Joy Prime, and everything exploded."
"This year we have different regions coming on board. This is the second time we’re going to have Greater Accra region, Ashanti region, and Central region. Western region will join the Central region. We have participants from the Eastern region and people coming as far as the Savannah region."
Mr. Nkansa expressed gratitude to the executives of Joy Prime for their support in increasing the reach of the programme by airing the previous episode.
The Junior Speller Challenge seeks to not only improve the vocabulary of the speller but also build their confidence, which is key to educational growth.
Tune in to Joy Prime as the competition kicks off this Saturday, August 5, at exactly 10 a.m., with a repeat on Fridays at 4:30 p.m.
Winners of this year’s contest will receive products from sponsors and have a high possibility of getting a sponsored trip outside Ghana.
The 5th edition of the Junior Speller Challenge is sponsored by Top Choco and Flora Tissues.
