Ghana’s leading radio station, Joy FM has received a lot of praise for celebrating mothers with special needs.
Three ladies assembled to discuss the impact of mothers on Home Affairs hosted by Edem Knight-Tay said, “Mothers raising children with special needs are the superheroes of motherhood and they have to be celebrated.”
Founder of Niche and CEO of Adeko Minds, Dedo Kofi applauded Joy FM for highlighting the plight that mothers raising children with special needs go through.
“It’s commendable for bringing it to light because sometimes, we tend to forget the types of persons who are so important in our communities just like in general, we don’t focus on persons with special needs.”
“I just want to celebrate them because I can’t begin to imagine what they have to go through to fend for their children. They are the superpowers, they are amazing, keep doing what you are doing”, she encouraged the mothers.
Founder and CEO of Marienoellespa and Salon, Marie Noelle Yakubu who was also on the show, offered to give the mothers some free pampering sessions to relax their muscles.
The third guest on the program, Baaba Ankrah, Founder of GOBA Kente, thanked the mothers raising children with special needs for not abandoning their children but rather devoting their time to take care of them.
This year on Mother’s Day, Joy FM, through its My Super Mom Promo, threw the spotlight on mothers who have children with special needs.
The mothers were asked to send stories of their struggles in fending for their children and out of the many, 10 mothers were chosen.
