South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has described a request for evidence by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) as surprising.
The MP and others want CHRAJ to investigate the leaked report by Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng on the work of the erstwhile Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining.
Even though he says the request is not odd, he believes he is not the appropriate person to furnish the Commission with the evidence needed.
“Indeed it is very surprising but not odd, it is just a matter of proceeding and I think that we will get over that hurdle and make progress in that matter,” he said.
CHRAJ has written to the MP demanding a litany of evidence to enable it probe named officials in the Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng report.

CHRAJ asked for the following:
-Evidence of damage to the forest reserves,
-Evidence of seized excavators
-Names and particulars of the said big men and nature of their communications
-Evidence of mining operations being undertaken by Mr. Charles Owusu
- Evidence showing that the said Mr. Charles Owusu was mining without a permit
-Evidence of the destruction caused to forests, farm lands, water bodies and the entire biodiversity by the said Mr. Charles Owusu
-Evidence of several dozens of large scale concessions being held by the Hon. Joseph Albert Quarm, the former MP for Mandi Nkwanta
-Names and particulars of private persons and party members to whom these concessions were sold to
-Evidence showing that the concessions were sold for two hundred thousand cedis”.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Midday news on Thursday, he noted that Prof Boateng is the right person to provide the needed pieces of evidence.

According to him, the former Chairman of the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining has indicated his willingness to appear before the Commission to respond to questions.
“So, I believe that once he is invited, he will have the documents to adduce to support the claims that he issued to the Office of the President which is the subject of the petition,” he added.
