Government spokesperson on the economy, Manasseh Atta Boahene, says the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is best placed to lead the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 general elections.
He said Dr Bawumia's contributions to the party and his enormous experience undoubtedly makes him the ideal fit if the NPP is to 'break the eight.'
He is confident that the vice president as an economist, outshines all the other aspirants.
He made these remarks during a conversation on Joy Prime’s morning show on Monday.
"Given what he [Dr Bawumia] has done and the expertise and experience he has, he is too much for any of our candidates. When we talk about experience, for him to even leave all that he had to do to represent the party in the 2012 election petition was great. And we all saw the level of intelligence he exhibited, giving some of the lawyers a tough time in court...," he asserted.
Although the other contenders are equally skilled and have contributed significantly to the success of the party, Dr Bawumia, he said, surpasses them all.
"When you compare what he has done in terms of digitalization, Ghana Card, Ghana Post, and everything else to what the other candidates have brought on board, I think the figures speak for themselves, and what the Vice President has brought on board far outweighs what every other person has done."
He opined that if the NPP is able to present a candidate who is not an Akan, the party would be headed for victory in the upcoming election because it will stop the NDC from campaigning along tribal lines.
Alan Kyeremanten is considered the major contender to Dr Bawumia. However, Manasseh Atta Boahene is of the view that a Bawumia-Alan merger can be considered if it will help the party break the eight.
In the meantime, the National Council of the party is yet to decide firmly regarding the timelines for the conduct of the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.
