Golden Star Resources Ltd is pleased to announce that Mr. Gerard Boakye, Group Manager, Corporate Affairs has been appointed as an Executive Director to the Board of Golden Star Wassa Ltd.
His appointment took effect from June 5, 2023. Mr. Boakye comes into the role with a wealth of experience in the extractive industry of Ghana, in the areas of Corporate Affairs, Public Relations and Sustainable development.
He is also on the Board of the College of Health and Allied Sciences of the University of Ghana School of Public Health. In addition, Boakye is also a board member of Golden Star Oil Palm Plantation.
Before joining Golden Star in March 2012 Gerard worked with Gold Fields Ghana Ltd and played active and vital roles in the development and implementation of activities in the areas of Sustainable Development policies and programs, environmental compliance, as well as community and stakeholder engagement. Prior to GoldFields, he worked with the Ghana Wildlife Society, where he is credited with various innovations including a 2000 membership increase drive campaign, and conservation education programs for schools and communities to create awareness of the organization and its environmental programs.
About Golden Star Wassa Ltd.
Golden Star Wassa Limited (Wassa) is a gold mining company in Southwestern Ghana that has been in operation since 2003. It commenced production from its surface operation in 2005 and commercial production was achieved at Wassa Underground on January 1, 2017. In early 2018 Wassa transitioned into an underground-focused operation.
In January 2022, Wassa was acquired by Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining Co.Ltd. (Chifeng Gold), a publicly listed company on the Shanghai Stock Exchange with more than five operating mines in the Asia Pacific region.
The acquisition was in line with the strategy to place Wassa on a larger platform to support the delivery of its growth.
