Minister for Sport, Mustapha Ussif wants Ghanaians to be rest assured about 2023 Africa Games facilities at the University of Ghana, which he guarantees will be completed before the December 2023 deadline.
He was part of a team led by the university's chancellor, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, on an inspection tour of Games' facilities on the Legon campus.
The university stadium will host all track and field events, as well as football.
Rugby will also be played on the university's rugby field, while the diaspora halls and immediate surroundings will be converted to the Games village.
“To assure the country and media, we will finish the facilities and do testing before the Games," Mustapha Ussif said after the inspection.
“We are not grappling with meeting deadlines. We are on track and are going to ensure the contractors complete the facilities on time. The contractor did indicate we are almost 70% complete [with the stadium] – some of the other facilities are at 80%. The Games village is almost 85% complete."
A 50,000 Olympic stadium, which will house five tennis courts, including a centre court that can seat up to 1000 spectators, and three multi-purpose sports halls for basketball, badminton, table tennis and volleyball, is currently under construction at Borteyman.
University of Ghana and the Borteyman Sports Complex will jointly host the Games.
