The police have apprehended the Safohene of Amosima in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese District.
This was after he accidentally shot his 40-year-old niece during the coronation of Ebusuapanin in Amosima in the Central Region.
In line with customary during such ceremonies, the chief discharged his firearm during the ceremony on Saturday, July 1.
But tragically, he mistakenly injured his niece, who had come to witness the event that afternoon.
Reports say the victim, known as Maame, sustained a deep leg wound from the bullet.
The occurrence led to the suspension of the ceremony, leaving the attendees in a state of fear and disbelief.
Following the incident, the mother of two was swiftly transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for medical attention, while the suspect was taken into custody by the police.
In his statement to the authorities, he expressed shock over mistakenly shooting his own niece, explaining that he had aimed the gun upwards when firing.
He vehemently maintained that the act was unintentional and purely accidental.
The suspect is presently being held by the police to aid in their investigation of the matter.
