The Director of the NDC International Relations Directorate (IRD), Alex Segbefia, says the New Patriotic Party stands no chance against the National Democratic Congress in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.
According to him, no matter the candidate chosen to represent the party, the performance of the ruling party will rub off negatively on them making it an easy win for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He stated that while the NPP is struggling to salvage their image ahead of the presidential elections, the NDC is convinced of their victory come 2024.
“My position on this is very clear; we really don’t care what they do. Absolutely don’t care. The baggage that is being carried by whoever comes as a result of the performance of this government, anyone who comes is going to sink."
“Whatever permutation they put forward, whoever is the leader of the party, and it gets worse when you mention the two forerunners because they have been part of the government, one more so than even the other. So if you even put them together you make matters worse."
“So as far as I’m concerned, the NPP is in a very bad place in terms of trying to create a front which gives Ghanaians the hope that something is going to change in Ghana,” he said on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday.
He was reacting to the end of nominations for the NPP presidential primaries. So far 10 people have successfully filed for nominations ahead of the NPP presidential primaries.
It is expected that voting by the NPP’s super delegates’ conference will whittle the number down to five for the general delegates conference.
The candidates are, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Joe Ghartey, Alan Kyerematen, Boakye Agyarko, Dr Konadu Apraku, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Kwadwo Poku, Kennedy Agyapong, Kwabena Agyapong and former MP Francis Addai Nimo.
