The President of the Association of Bullion Operators Ghana (ABOG), Alhaji Iddi Sumaila, has revealed that about 150 armoured bullion vans are ready to be used by banks from July 1, 2023.

His comments is coming after four armed robbers attacked a bullion van at a petroleum filling station at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra region, killing a police officer.

According to Alahji Iddi Sumaila, most banks have signed contract with the association to start deploying the armoured bullion vans.

“By 1st of July [2023], we will see banks using armoured vehicles/bullion vans. However, other banks have not finalized the agreement with us,” he told an Accra based radio station.

“We have about 150 bullion vans in the country. Most banks have signed contracts with us to deploy to them”, he pointed.

He added that they will expedite action to ensure that all banks use armoured billion vans from the beginning of next month.

Meanwhile, the police in statement said investigations have commenced to arrest the robbers.

“The police are on a manhunt to arrest a gang of four robbers who attacked a bullion van at Ablekuma Fanmilk, a suburb of Accra, and shot the police escort who has unfortunately passed on,” a statement from the police said.

“Our prayers and thoughts are with the family of our deceased colleague in particular and all personnel of the Police Service in general.

“We wish to assure the public that we will surely get the robbers arrested to face justice.”
