Flagbearer hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is afraid of his candidature.
Dr Bawumia insists the opposition party knows he is the only that can defeat their candidate in the 2024 polls.
According to him, the NDC knows that with him on the NPP’s ticket, Mr Mahama cannot claim the Northern Region.
He has thus asked delegates of the NPP to vote massively for him to lead the party into the 2024 elections.
“They know we will break the 8, and they know that John Mahama cannot take me on in the North, and they know that I will beat him in the North and this is why they don’t want me to be the flagbearer.”
Dr Bawumia said on Monday, June 19, when he addressed NPP delegates in the Tema West constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
The New Patriotic Party will elect its flagbearer for the 2024 polls on November 4.
So far, about 10 aspirants including the Vice President have picked nominations forms to contest for the slot, while five of them have successfully filed. Vetting is expected soon.
