The Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Nana Agyemang Prempeh, has urged flood-affected residents of Keta and Ketu South to consider relocating as soon as possible as government works to solve the flood issue in the municipalities.
Mr Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh said this when he toured the affected communities in the two municipalities and also distributed some relief items to the affected residents.
The DG noted that government was worried about the perennial flooding causing extensive destruction to lives and properties in some parts of the Volta Region and stressed the need to relocate for the meantime until a suitable solution is found.
He noted that relocating is a temporal way of solving the issue which would also help prevent any unforeseen disaster in the future especially in the areas where the tidal waves is also an issue.
He reiterated governments commitment to making sure that issues of flood and high waves are solved as soon as possible. He said the government is a listening one and would make sure that residents are safe and sound.
Recent torrential rains ravaged several homes and schools, as well as farmlands, in the Ketu South and Keta Municipalities.
Mr. Eric Nana Agyeman-Prempeh, speaking to residents said there was a possibility of more rains in the coming days which could flood and affect communities along the lagoon thus justifying his call for their relocation.
On his part, the MCE for Keta who received the items on behalf of the two Municipal Assembly's, Mr. Emmanuel Gemegah, thanked NADMO for recognizing their efforts and pledged to continue to intensify public education on the effects of flooding.
Emmanuel Gemegah was grateful for the swift response and pledged to make sure that the items are fairly distributed.
Some of the affected residents thanked NADMO for their quick response and appealed to organizations and individuals to come to their aid as they have lost most of their properties in the floods.
Mr. Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh was accompanied by the Volta Regional Boss of NADMO, Ivy Mawufemor Amewugah, officials from the headquarters and some staff of the Volta regional office of NADMO.
