Members of the 1997 year group of OLA Secondary School known as 'the Rockers' among the School’s global fraternity, brought Ho and its environs to a stand-still last weekend when they celebrated 25 years after their exit.
The anniversary celebrations, which spanned a three-day period from Friday 19th to Sunday, May 21st, saw the group presenting a GH¢75,000 12-Unit ultra–modern washroom facility and four hand-washing basins to the school.
They also gave out boxes of hand-washing liquid soap and detergents to help maintain the facility.
The group in previous celebrations gave the school two 10,000 litres capacity polytanks, refurbished the dining hall, and also extended the school’s kitchen.
As part of its social responsibility to the Ho community where the school is situated, POGA ‘97 was at the MADAMFO Shelter where it presented several food items worth over GH₵5,000 in addition to clothing and footwear to the shelter housing over 44 children aged between 3 and 17 years.
For entertainment, the group engaged hiplife artiste Camidoh, to perform some of his hit songs during its bonfire night held on Friday after a Career Fair earlier in the day.
Supporting the school in celebrating its 69th Speech and Prize-Giving Day, the group presented food items jointly with the 1998 year group to help in feeding the students.
The group aside from awarding deserving students in their various fields of study, also gave awards to members of the school management and many of its retired teachers who taught them in the past.
President of the POGA ‘97 group, Mrs. Seyram Joan Aku Folie–Asagba, whilst thanking the management of the school in her speech delivered during the celebrations chaired by Mrs. Eugenia De Youngster, called for an improvement in the school’s overall conditions and academic excellence, to elevate its ranking not only within the region but nationwide.
She emphasised the need for partnership between OLA and her old girls – POGA, urging a balanced approach rather than placing demands solely on the latter.
She further congratulated members of the Class of ‘97 and asked that they continue to live above reproach.
The group is slated to join parishioners of the Mary Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Accra on June 4, 2023, in a Thanksgiving mass to crown its celebrations.
