Hohoe market women and traders have commended the Hohoe Municipal Assembly for the construction of the phase one of new market stalks and shades.
The market women who said they were previously driven away from the place few months ago for the construction noted that initially they were skeptical about the idea since they did not have any convenient place to relocate to at the time.
They are however very excited about having to move to a modern market with all the auxiliary facilities.
They noted that the new market will help boost their businesses and even give employment to the people of the area especially the unemployed youth.
"At first we were not happy with the relocation from this place because of the unavailability of places to trade our goods but we are now very much excited about the new market and waiting anxiously to start operating from there," one of the women said.
The project, according to the MCE, Daniel Noble Awume, is part of the World Bank support for the implementation of its Urban Development Action plan 2019-2023 under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP) which he noted is intended to support existing projects.
Mr. Awume also noted that the new market will help improve on the economic activities of the municipality as well as give employment to the unemployed youth, especially in the area of the new Crèche in the market to help the nursing mothers sell their goods without worrying about their toddlers’ safety.
Mr. Daniel Noble Awume said the market after completion in 2023, will consist of 106 lockable stores, 144 sheds, a police station, a health post, a fire post and Crèche.
