Liverpool legend John Barnes led a one day football clinic organized by Standard Chartered Ghana on Saturday for children at the Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC) in Accra.
The two-time Premier League winner guided the children of staff and long-time customers of Standard Chartered Ghana through basic formalities on the PRESEC AstroTurf.
Standard Chartered Bank, long-time sponsors of Liverpool, collaborated with the English Premier League club to organize the clinic for over 160 children.
After the clinic, John Barnes spoke to the media and explained the purpose of the event, which is to impart knowledge and values of Liverpool to these kids.
“What we are trying to do is impart our knowledge on young people all over the world, including Ghana,” Barnes said.
“We are not here looking for professional footballers who will play for Liverpool.
“Our aim is to interact with children and instill the values that Liverpool Football Club embodies, such as unity, dignity, and ambition, which are traits of a good human being.”
Asiedua Addae, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Branding, and Marketing of Standard Chartered Ghana, revealed that they partner with Liverpool because they share the same values.
“As John said, we are taking them through basic drills but, more importantly, we are instilling certain values in them.
“The reason why we are in partnership with them is that we also share the same values.
“I believe our clients are thrilled today to have brought their kids here to interact with John."
Over 160 boys and girls participated in Saturday’s clinic.
