Standup comedian, Putogo Mowsis, has explained why some comedians also suffer from depression.
He said the tedious process comedians go through to create humorous content for people comes with a lot of stress.
According to him, comedians are mostly concerned about putting smiles on people's faces and hiding their emotions, which contributes to depression.
"Comedy is very dark. Most comedians are depressed because we’re always thinking of new ideas on how to make other people happy. In doing that, you forget about yourself," he told KMJ on Prime Morning on Wednesday.
Comedians are widely seen as people with little or no worries due to the nature of what they do.
As a result, some of them are emotionally drained but are unable to speak about it.
As to how they are able to overcome these emotions, the comedian said, "sometimes music. Good music is a very good therapy. When you have nice movies, you can watch them to make you less depressed."
He suggested that comedians develop the habit of writing to help minimise their depression.
Comedian Putogo is set to hold a comedy show dubbed 'Everything is Funny' to make people laugh about some fears in life.
The show comes off on May 27 at Snap Cinemas in the A.M.A. Building in Accra at 6:00 p.m.
The event will feature a mix of standup comedy, storytelling, and music, with support from some of the top entertainers in the country.
