Sunyani-based girls’ school, Notre Dame Girls' SHS has defeated Wesley Girls' High School, Tamale SHS, Jamiat Islamic Girls' SHS, and Keta SHTS to book a slot at the grand finale of the 2023 Onga Cook Art national championship.
These participating schools battled it out in the Zone C champions to book a space at the national level.
It was keenly contested as the cognitive skills of the participating schools were tested in the first part of the competition, which is the theory segment.
The contestants moved to the kitchen to execute the task of the day, which was to prepare two square meals of an indigenous Ghanaian dish for the guests of the Director-General of GES.
All contestants put in effort to impress the judges, but the Sunyani-based girls’ school topped the challenge with 58 out of 100 points.
The reigning champions, Wesley Girls' High School, could not retain the title and emerged second with 56.2 points. Tamale SHS was third with 51 points. Jamiat Islamic Girls’ SHS and Keta SHS emerged fourth and fifth, respectively.
The judge, Chef Rafiatu, was impressed with the creativity and dexterity the participants exuded in the preparation of the dishes.
The quiz administrator, Lily-Versta Nyarko, applauded all contestants by saying, "You’ve done very well. You’re all winners. It’s not easy to be in the hot kitchen, neither is it easy to answer questions within a minute."
Notre Dame Girls' SHS is to represent all Zone C schools at the grand finale of the national championship on Sunday, May 21.
