Contrary to criticism of the shortfalls in the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Stonebwoy has expressed how impressed he was with this year’s event.
He told Lexis Bill on Drive Time on Joy FM that because he was not billed to perform this year, he had time watch the event well, to appreciate the nuances in the entire production.
“This would be one of the first times that I would just be sitting and watching the whole show and getting up to collect what is deserved. That gave me a lot of time to see the VGMAs from a different perspective like a complete consumer who would actually take note and see what the improvement have been and what I can do the next time when I am performing so I think my overall submission will be that this year’s has been amazing, super - from the red carpet to the stage, the use of lighting and screen,” he said.
He also added that although the organisers have done well over the years, the level they took it this year is worth commending.
“I think by the next three times the VGMAs will be held like this, it will feel like I am really watching the Grammys or BETs, to be honest,” he added.
Stonebwoy won Afropop Song of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
There were performances by Piesie Esther, Epixode, Lasmid, Gyakie, Kwabena Kwabena and KiDi.
Ofori Amponsah, Sarkodie, Medikal and King Promise also featured on the show.
While Crystal Kwarme Aryee and Fiifi Coleman handled the red carpet interviews, Naa Ashorkor, Berla Mundi and James Gardiner were the drivers of the main event.
