A District Court in Tamale has fined the two persons who recently attacked a journalist at Dagbon FM in the Northern Region GH¢3,600.
The two, Iddrisu Hardi alias Pagaaza, and his accomplice, Mumuni Osman, pleaded guilty to all four charges leveled against them.
They were convicted on their own plea, and subsequently sentenced to a fine of Three Thousand, Six Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH₵3, 600.00) or in default serve a custodial sentence of 18 months imprisonment in hard labour.
The charges include; conspiracy to commit crime to wit assault, assault, unlawful entry, and threat of death.
Following the convictions, the two duly paid their fines to the Court.
However, the Judge before delivering his ruling, cautioned them not to repeat such unlawful acts.
He also urged presenters of political shows and their guests to be circumspect in their pronouncements and actions.
Abubakari Sadiq Gariba, a radio presenter was physically assaulted during a live broadcast on May 3, 2023.
This was after he reportedly criticized one of his attackers during a discussion on the Abudu and Andani conflict on a political programme.
Following the unfortunate incident, several institutions called for the arrest and prosecution of the two.
The Police subsequently arrested them on Monday, May 8, 2023, and put them before the court on Wednesday, May 10.
