The Chief Executive Officer of Primeval Media, Larry Otoo, has bemoaned the Sports Ministry's reluctance to utilise the Year of Return to promote sports tourism in Ghana.
In recent years, Ghana has attracted personnel from the diaspora during the holiday festivities around December and January with the arts industry and other creative sectors taking advantage of the presence of the tourists.
However, the sports sector has done very little to promote its legends to the tourists who come into the country, something Otoo believes they should be taking advantage of.
"We haven't taken sports tourism seriously in this country. We haven't. We had a year of return, did you see any sporting activity in the Year of Return? How can we have Azumah Nelson who is a Hall of Famer and we can't leverage on him?," he quizzed on Joy Sports Link.
"We go out there and can't carry some of these things along for them to sell our country and to bring the people here. We did Year of Return, we have done Beyond the Return. Where do we have the sporting discipline and the things that we have achieved and the things that we have done?
"You mention CK Gyamfi, the great Ohene Gyan, the 1966 World Cup that we boycotted, who instigated it? Who made the case for Africa? What are we doing to ourselves?"
Otoo's comments follow recent claims from Joseph Agbeko and other key sports personalities in Ghana who have expressed their dismay at not being honoured enough.
