The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) has disconnected the power supply to the offices of the Allied Health professional zonal council in Tamale for illegal connection.
The disconnection occurred when the monitoring team from the power distribution company visited the premises on April 19.
Speaking to JoyNews after the exercise, the Area Manager of NEDCO, Elvis Denuyakor said the council had tampered with the meter thereby consuming power they were not billed.
“When we visited the Ghana Health directorate which shares the same compound with Allied Council we assumed they shared the same meter. After close monitoring we realised that the Allied Health Sciences had tapped directly into power and had illegally bypassed the meter,” Mr Denuyakor said.
The area manager said he could not tell how long they had tapped into direct power but promised they would have to face the law.
“We don’t know when they did it, they claim they did it some weeks ago but we are unable to confirm. After our own investigations we will make sure the law takes its course” he added.
At the Tamale High Court, although they were supposed to be disconnected for their debt, the Manager in charge of billing and revenue collection, Hilda Jeni Alhassan said the court had made an initial payment of GH¢ 54,000 with about GH¢ 64000 withstanding.
