The Duamenefa Foundation has launched the 2023 edition of its annual football tournament.
Dubbed Duamenefa Regional Tournament 2023, the event would feature a month-long football league and a 22-kilometer marathon.
The tournament which was initiated in 2017 is expected to feature about 100 teams from the Volta Region. It serves as a springboard for promising professional footballers in the region to kick off their professional careers.
The registration window for participating teams spans from now till 31st April 2023, while the tournament will take off between May and June.
According to the Secretary of the Duamenefa Foundation, Gilbert Keabla Gbittor, two best-performing players from this year's edition would be awarded a trial session in the United Kingdom, with an opportunity to get signed on to a football club.
He said that the Foundation has struck a partnership with scouting agencies in Europe and America to help unearth and nurture talents in football.
“The Duamenefa Regional Tournament has succeeded in promoting youth through sports, thanks to selection of competent players by the Scouting Agency Soccer IQ, with scouts from the United Kingdom (UK), Portugal, the United States, Canada and Europe,” he said.
He said the tournament among other things has exposed football managers to the business aspect of the sporting discipline, built the capacity of coaches and players, created a stronger network for football administrators among others.
He announced that this year's tournament would ran on a Gh₵200,000 budget and appealed for support from the Ghanaian populace.
