Ghanaian blogger, Ameyaw Kissi Debrah, has responded to criticism of content published by bloggers, especially in the entertainment industry.
A lot of these bloggers have over the years been mauled for producing subpar works. One of the things they are usually bashed for, is writing stories riddled with grammatical errors.
Asked if some bloggers do that intentionally, award-wining Ghanaian blogger Ameyaw Debrah told Kwame Dadzie in Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces conversation that while some of these mistakes could be genuine, others are usually for engagement purposes.
“Sometimes mistakes happen to the best of us. Even BBC they make mistakes and we see them. But I think sometimes based on the reaction you also see that people would talk about the mistake and you get some engagement through that so you let it go,” he said.
He, however, noted that it is important for people in the blogosphere to acquire the good skill of writing to avoid unpardonable mistakes.
Ameyaw, who is one of the pioneers of blogging in Ghana, also acknowledged how their work has helped to shape the showbiz industry. According to him, they have projected the works of creatives and introduced them to the world.
He made the statement during a discussion on the impact of blogging on the showbiz industry.
Held on ‘Joy Entertainment Unpacked’, Joy FM’s weekly Twitter Spaces conversation on entertainment, the discussion was aimed at understanding the work of bloggers in Ghana, to know their challenges, celebrate their wins and suggest ways of making their work better in terms of affecting society.
Other speakers were Sammy Kay (blogger), Entamoty (blogger) Kobby Kyei (blogger), Mic Yamoah (communications lecturer) and Edem Mensah Tsotorme (journalist).
