Lucas Joao and Osman Bukari scored for Angola and Ghana respectively as they played out a 1-1 at the 11 November Stadium in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Hughton made four changes to the team that beat Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium last Thursday with Joseph Aidoo, Kingsley Schindler, Salis Abdul Samed and Antoine Semenyo being handed starting berths.
Angola wasted no time from the kickoff as Gilberto sent his flying shot just wide of Lawrence Ati-Zigi's post.
Fredy came close again for the home side with a free-kick from 25 yards out but it was straight at the Ghanaian keeper as the Black Stars were still yet to settle in the game.
Gelson Dala and To Carneiro were next to threaten the Ghanaian goal but they were the same as in previous attempts.
Both teams went into the break with no goals but it was the Palencas Negras who had three shots on target compared to Ghana's none from two attempts.
Angola started the second half as they did in the opening half but Helder Costa's strike from the box was far from troubling the goalkeeper.
Four minutes after recess, the home team was awarded a penalty after Daniel Amartey was adjudged to have fouled his opponent in the box. Joao stepped up and converted to give Angola the lead.
Hughton brought on Bukari and Majeed Ashimeru in place of Mohammed Kudus and Edmund Addo.
The Red Star man was involved immediately as he scored the equalising goal to make it 1-1.
Ghana took control of the game thereafter and should have taken the lead in the 87th minute of the game but Paintsil's effort was blocked by an Angolan defender.
The game ended one all with Ghana seeing their three points lead at the top of Group E cut to one following Central Africa Republic's win over Madagascar earlier in the day.
