Absa Bank proved to be a great competitor not only in the banking business but in food competition as well.

They pulled all the stops to topple rotary philanthropists in their own backyard in a fiercely contested cookout organised by the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central.

The annual fundraiser competition christened “Taste of Ghana” brought together 10 teams carefully selected from various rotary clubs tasked to prepare original Ghanaian cuisine.

The proceeds from the event is for the construction of the Berekuso Hospital Project currently ongoing in the Eastern Region.

The completion of this project is crucial to saving countless lives at the mercy of a chip compound that is barely able to hand out basic healthcare to residents.

Well, the competition was heated. Cooks from the Rotary Clubs of Accra Labone, Airport East, Ridge, North Kaneshie, also the Rotaract Clubs of Accra East and Ring Road Central as well as buddy groups from the organising club, Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central, brought their A-game.

Dishes on display were Fufu and Palmnut soup, Banku and Okro stew, Apapransa, Red-Red, Yam and Palava sauce, Ampesi and Abom, Omotuo, Waakye, Tuo Zaafi and Aboboyi and Tatale.

The meals were judged by professional chefs under strict rules. It included the state of the work area and personal appearance, presentation, creativity, teamwork and taste.

But after a few hours of cooking, the Okro Stew and Banku by Absa was adjudged the winning food to the disappointment of all the clubs, particularly the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central.

Their fufu and palm nut soup had repeatedly won in previous years.

Well, the day did not end in tears as it was also a gathering of family, friends, and loved ones enjoying games, food and socialising.

The kid's corner had bouncing castles and other sweet sheds which was a total sell-out, especially for children from the Krishna home.

The day ended by proving these Akan saying “enam duduo nsei nkwan” to wit too much knowledge only goes to enhance society and "nkwankyen adie eefa y3 di sika na eye" to wit it takes an investment to get development.
